My LEGO Obsession

In the words of my fellow ginger, Mr Ed Sheeran:

“I’m gonna pick up the pieces and build a LEGO house”

Earlier this year, I very spontaneously (and naively) built a simple LEGO sunflower.

This then turned into a full bouquet… which led to further purchases, such as botanical plant sets, Harry Potter castles, Disney characters and Mario Kart himself.

You get where I’m going here. It’s a slippery slope of addiction.

I’ve never been one to hoard or collect things… as quite frankly, I hate the mess. But there is something incredibly relaxing about the building process, which instantly had me hooked.

Ross sat in his hallway surrounded by a mountain of Lego boxes on his lap and the surrounding floor.

In recent years, I feel like I’ve lacked a hobby or a passion project. Something to really throw myself into… something that makes me put the phone down, or switch the TV off.

Nowadays, it’s all too easy to get wrapped up in the routine of everyday life / work, that we often neglect time for our other interests. This blog being one of them.

Check out this little video montage I put together of some of my favourite builds so far:

Since discovering the world of adult LEGO online (yes I understand how that sounds, but hear me out!) I’ve also found a whole new community of friends.

Through live-streaming on TikTok, I’ve connected with so many great individuals, and it still surprises me that people actually enjoy sitting and watching me build these sets.

Now you may be wondering: “where do you store all of these?!” or “how do you afford them?!

The truth is, not all these sets are mine to keep! I was recommended a website called Brick Borrow which is essentially a postal subscription service, where you can choose what you’d like to build from HUNDREDS of different sets for a monthly fee.

It really is a genius and affordable way of experiencing a variety of designs before sending them back… even though it breaks my heart having to dismantle them each time.

I know many people will also think:

but so are naps and chicken nuggets… and does that stop you?

So if there’s anything you take away from this post, it’s that I’m just a massive nerd nowadays.

And you too should take time to find a new hobby, regardless of your age or abilities.

What I will say tho, is that LEGO is still very expensive for the ones that I do buy & keep. So if I have any secret millionaires following me… my DM’s are open!
