Summer is officially here… pass me the suncream because this ginger is about to burn.
The Cornish weather has well and truly been on our side recently, so I was excited to don my shorts and head straight for the beach.
But this wasn’t just any ol’ beach day…
I MADE A SANDCASTLE!

For most people this probably means nothing, but what you don’t understand is that I haven’t physically sat on a beach (and felt the sand between my toes) since I was a child.
Mad, innit!
None of this would have been possible if it wasn’t for my ‘easyTravelseat’ – kindly gifted by Able Move UK.

WHAT IS IT?
The idea of the ‘easyTravelseat’ was founded in 2017 by Josh – a wheelchair user with the same condition as myself (SMA).
Originally designed for use on and off an aircraft, the ‘easyTravelseat’ is an innovative product that allows people with reduced mobility to be transferred in a safe and dignified way.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Similar in appearence to a hoist-type sling, the ‘easyTravelseat’ is built with manual lifting handles.
Requiring assistance from two people, this seat champions comfort – as it is fitted with a memory foam cushion and high back support.
Hoist straps are also in place, with hiding pouches for those who do not require them. Gel pad seating variations are also available.

MY EXPERIENCE
The thing I love most about this product is that fact it can be used for more than just aircraft experiences.
My recent trip to the beach is a prime example of that. Without this seat, I would never have been able to physically sit on the sand, let alone transfer from my wheelchair to the beach buggy itself.
I filmed a short video on the day, to document my parents using the ‘easyTravelseat’.
As cliché as it sounds, the possibilities are now endless. To see more examples of Able Move’s #OutOfMyChair experiences, you can click here.
This beach day in particular will be one I will never forget. Thank you again to Josh for kindly gifting me this awesome product.
