Last week I had an X-ray.
No, I haven’t broken any bones and no, I haven’t put something where it shouldn’t be…
I do, however, have kidney stones (again)
DUN DUN DUNNNN.
This is not the news I was hoping for this week, let alone the post I intended on writing – but sometimes life throws you these little curveballs.
I’ve done it before, and I can do it again.
If you know me well, then you will know that I have a history with these painful little pellets. Over the past 5 years, I have had 3 operations.
I was very nervous going into last week’s checkup scan. Laying flat on my back is extremely uncomfortable, let alone when it’s on a metal table / bed.

As it currently stands – or sits in my case – I have two 5mm stones in my right kidney.
Although I am not in any major pain, I often get the odd twinge in my side when I am a bit stressed. After numerous operations, I have come to accept that this is now my weak spot.
Plan of Action
1. Don’t die.
2. Stop being so dramatic.
3. Await an ultrasound scan, before potential lithotripsy treatment in 6 months time.
Lithotripsy is a technique used to break stones, by using high-energy shockwaves. Although this may be more painful than being “put to sleep” for an operation – I do not want to go under a general anaesthetic again, if it can be helped.
Last time around, lithotripsy was not an option for me, as there were no accessible venues for treatment in Cornwall – CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?!
However, there is talk of a new indoor treatment centre opening in Plymouth soon, so I am hopeful that this is the route I can go down.
So there we have it guys, a little life update for you. Apologies it’s not my usual cheeky post, but hey ho.
The whole point of creating ‘A Life on Wheels’ was for me to document my journey through adulthood, so I felt it only right to share this with you today.
Please don’t take this as me wanting your sympathy, because it could have been a lot worse…
Doctors say that kidney stones are the “closest thing a man can get to childbirth”
Therefore I will be holding a special baby shower next week, where I shall look forward to receiving endless amounts of gifts 😉
