ELF: The Musical – Theatre Royal Plymouth

In the words of Buddy himself… “The best way to spread Christmas cheer, is singing loud for all to hear!”

It’s safe to say I’m feeling the festive love. What could be better than watching one of your favourite christmas films live on stage?! Today I’m sharing my review of ELF – The Musical.

I tried to get tickets last year, but the event was so quick to sell out that I missed it! So when I saw the production was coming back on tour in Plymouth this year, I snapped up tickets for both me and my sister.

Being the christmas nerds that we are, we were in our element dressed in Elf slippers and santa hats. To be honest, that’s just a standard night in our house anyway…

The show itself was great, despite a technical glitch which bought it to stand still at one point. The cast were fantastic and the storyline was as similar to the film as possible. I’m not a massive theatre fan, but even I was tempted to break out into song whilst wheeling back to the car!

Ben Forster (winner of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ITV Superstar competition) played the main role of Buddy, whilst Liz McClarnon (Atomic Kitten singer) played love interest Jovie.

I have been to the Theatre Royal in Plymouth a couple times now and I definitely recommend them as an accessible venue. The wheelchair spaces are right at the very front of the stage and there is a disabled toilet nearby.

If I had to be picky, the only issue I’d say is that there is a fair walk from the car park – as my van doesn’t fit in the multi-storey outside. But luckily the weather was on our side this time and I had no problem wheeling through the streets in my christmas gear!

The tour has now finished in Plymouth and has moved onto The Lowry in Salford. For more information, check out their website: www.elfthemusical.co.uk
