Wheelchair Roller Skating

Updated: Sep 24, 2019

Roller skating in a wheelchair?

Completed it mate.

If you're a regular reader of my blog, then you'll know that I love to push boundaries, try new activities and challenge disability stereotypes.

Last week I had the opportunity to go roller skating!

Yep, you heard that right. Tell me something I can't do...

(except walking, that's just cruel)

I had such a good time, that I felt it only necessary to share my experience in the form of a video, as photos will never do justice to just how awesome this place was.

As you can tell from my video, 'Roller's Roller Rink' provide the perfect venue for a fun night out with your friends.

Here are my top 5 reasons as to why YOU should get your skates on:

The Atmosphere

Atmosphere is something that is really important to me. How could you possibly be sad when you're surrounded by disco lights?

All the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful - and not one person questioned the fact that there was some dude in a wheelchair doing donut spins in the middle of the rink...

This event in particular was an 80's theme. Add fancy dress to any night out and I'm yours.

The Skating

The skating itself was actually so much fun! Even though I was sat down, wearing the boots and feeling the skating sensation was a real buzz for me.

I also had great fun in 'dragging' my friend around. My only regret is that we didn't start a massive conga line on the back of my chair.

The Food

Whoever thought of the idea to combine an American-style diner inside a skating rink, is a genius.

Now it's no surprise that I love my food, so I was a excited to try out the goods!

I was surprised at how many menu options were available. Choices came in the form of burgers, wraps, hot dogs and nachos - we were definitely not going to go hungry, that was for sure.

Vegan options were also available, as well as a large selection of drinks to choose from, both soft and alcoholic.

As I was driving, I opted for the raspberry slush, whilst my friend Sophie (of course) chose the tropical double vodka! haha.

The Music

TUNES! Good food, good company and good music - what more could you want?!

I sometimes think I was born in the wrong era, as I love me some 80's.

I'm not so sure on the whole leg warmer look though, but I think I pulled it off quite well.

The Arcades

"A fool and his money are soon parted" - why do I get so excited over arcade games?

You're never going to beat the claw Ross...

I was like a kid in a candy store, just take my money!

Thank you again to 'Roller's Roller Rink' for having us. I really enjoyed the whole retro vibe and would not hesitate in going back.

The overall access was great, which included plenty of parking and a disabled toilet.

No feet were harmed in the making of this video ;-)
