Without going too deep and meaningful on you, today’s post probably isn’t one you were expecting.
It’s that time of year when you’re so focused on everyone else – sorting gifts, arranging parties, planning the food shop – that it’s so easy to forget about number one…

Practicing ‘Self-Care’ does not make you selfish. It’s all about managing your time and looking after yourself (physically & mentally), by doing things that make you happy.
I love Christmas and I’m a massive fan of all things festive, however this is not always the case for everyone else. December months can be a stressful time, especially if you’re a bit of a Grinch.
‘Self-Care’ can apply to anyone, regardless of age/gender stereotypes. As someone with a physical disability myself, I am taking extra caution in these winter months.

In a bid to reduce the risk of getting ill, I thought I’d share some of my top tips on how to practice ‘Self-Care’:
Early Nights
I am literally a pig in blanket. Most evenings I am rolled up in a duvet/hot water combo. The idea of an early night actually excites me, does this mean I’m getting old?
I have a bad habit of going to bed at a reasonable time and then spending hours scrolling through social media/youtube – before I know it, it’s gone midnight and I’m kicking myself.

Sleep is so underrated. I definitely recommend resting up over the festive period, even a cheeky nap here or there is acceptable!
Good People
Whether that means spending time with family or friends, surrounding yourself with good people is THE BEST way to look after yourself.
Laughter therapy costs nothing and it also makes awesome memories. This can be a social gathering at home or a meal out at your favourite restaurant – as long as the company is good – nothing else matters.
I recently went to a friends house, we had a takeaway and played Cards Against Humanity all evening. Simple nights like this are my favourite.

Make Time
It’s easy to get caught up in the chaos of everyday life, but one thing that we can never go back on is time. If recent events have taught me anything, it’s to make time for the things that really matter.
Whether that means prioritising your tasks or visiting that special person – do what’s right for you.
Switch off
I get great pleasure in switching my phone onto “Do Not Disturb” mode. Social media is incredibility addictive, and at times can be mentally draining. Last week I took some time out away from my phone, blog and social media accounts.
This definitely improved my mindset and allowed me to focus on other important things/people, as mentioned in my point above.

Taking some time out has also given me some inspiration for future blog posts, which I plan to start writing in the new year.
I’d like to start a new blog series called “Ross’s Recommendations” – where each month I share with you some of my favourite things – from choices of music, films, restaurants and local events.
Let me know what you think!
This is my final post now before Christmas. Next time you see me, I shall quite possibly be in a food coma… so look after yourselves guys!
