This review was written by myself in August 2016, and posted on the Truro Plaza Facebook page. The review was later removed by the site – however I still intend on sharing it.
I’m not usually one to comment on these things, but yet again I’ve been turned away from this venue due to their limited capacity/access for wheelchair users.
I was recently unable to purchase tickets at The Plaza as the ONE wheelchair space in Screen 2 had already been booked.
It’s ridiculous how there are hundreds of regular seats for everyone else, yet only ONE allocated space for a wheelchair user.
For the brief period of time that I was in the foyer, there were 4 separate wheelchair users in the queue. The fact that 3 of these people got turned away when there are still empty regular seats is wholly unacceptable, and proves that there is a demand for change.
Screens 1, 4 & 5 are upstairs. The old-style stairlift to these screens is completely useless. Not only is it extremely slow and degrading, it feels very unsafe and has broken down on me several times in the past.
The weight of my chair has also been questioned before – which is ridiculous, as I use a standard electric wheelchair.
We are in the 21st century! It’s sad that wheelchair users are unable to watch the latest films due to poor access upstairs, or because there’s only ONE allocated space downstairs.
As the social hub in the centre of Cornwall’s capital city, I expect better of Truro Plaza, and would not recommend this cinema for wheelchair users.
